Summary: If you want to import XAVC files to Final Cut Pro 6/7/X for editing without rendering, a good suggestion is to convert Sony XAVC to ProRes 422, 4444 MOV. Learn details.
Sony’s had a couple of really great 4k cameras available for some time now, like PXW-F5, PXW-F55, PXW-Z100, FDR-AX1… However, there’s not going to be native support for the XAVC codec in most NLEs. I got some XAVC files and want to import them to Final Cut Pro(7) to make a feature film. I’ve figured out the solution for editing Sony 4K XAVC in Final Cut Pro flawlessly.
However, Final Cut Pro does not have native editing support for XAVC footage, so you must transcode XAVC to Prores codec, which has been designed to work especially well as high-quality, high performance editing codecs for Final Cut Pro(no matter FCP X or FCP 6/7). UFUWare HD Converter for Mac is the recommended utility to fulfill the task.
